Salute a te viandante,
Io sono San Bernardino da Siena, sono un dotto, un istruito, preparato sia nel campo delle scienze umane e della teologia, eppure ho capacità di rivolgermi ai semplici, agli ultimi, agli analfabeti. So che in gioco c'era la salvezza delle anime e per questo faccio di tutto per comunicare il Vangelo cercando di farmi capire e desidero essere un modello anche per i predicatori di oggi.
Sono nato a Massa Marittima nel 1380, rimasto orfano da piccolo di entrambi i genitori sono stato allevato da delle zie terziarie francescane. E nel carisma francescano ho trovò l'orizzonte nel quale spendere la mia vita per il Vangelo. A ventidue anni ho lasciato le agiatezze della sua famiglia per entrare nell'Ordine dei Minori. Divenuto sacerdote, mi è stato affidato, grazie alla mia cultura ed eloquenza, il ministero della predicazione. Ho percorso in un primo tempo la Toscana e poi tutta l'Italia, annunciando con grande successo la parola di Dio. Le mie prediche sono pervenute grazie ad un fedele (o ammiratore) trascrittore, il quale a modo suo ha stenografato tutto, anche i miei sospiri...
La mia eloquenza semplice e incisiva ha attirato le folle, risvegliato la pratica religiosa, conciliato le fazioni, suggerito riforme. Ho conquistato l’uditorio non con ragionamenti astrusi e astratti, ma con la semplicità, con parabole, aneddoti, racconti, metafore, drammatizzando e teatralizzando il racconto. Sono soprattutto attuale: castigo e canzono le umane debolezze, le stregonerie, le superstizioni, il gioco e le bische, i piccoli e grandi imbrogli nel commercio al dettaglio, le mode frivole, i vizi in generale, pubblici e privati. Ma sono feroce con gli usurai. Paragono la morte di questi tali all’uccisione del porco in una famiglia: una festa ed una liberazione dalla fame per tutti.
Ho propagato con slancio la devozione al SS. Nome di Gesù e ne ho inculcato la venerazione alle moltitudini. Per rendere più efficace la mia parola, ho fatto scolpire o dipingere su tavolette e formelle di svariata materia il monogramma del nome di Gesù «JHS», circondato da raggi.
Ho impresso anche un nuovo spirito di riforma nell'Ordine francescano. Tanta attività apostolica mi ha fatto preferire sempre il chiostro all'Episcopio, anche se l'Ordine mi voleva, e mi ricordano così, tra i più grandi Vicari di ogni tempo. Ho scritto molte opere, tra cui i “Sermones” in latino e le «Prediche» in volgare. Sono morto a L'Aquila il 20 maggio 1444, e sono sepolto proprio lì nella basilica omonima.

O Dio, che hai dato al santo sacerdote Bernardino
un raro amore per il santo nome di Gesù,
per i suoi meriti e le sue preghiere
dona a noi lo spirito di questo tuo amore.

I am San Bernardino da Siena, I am a learned, educated, educated both in the field of human sciences and theology, yet I have the ability to address the simple, the last, the illiterate. I know that there was the salvation of souls in the game and that's why I do everything to communicate the Gospel by trying to make myself understood and also wating to be a model for today's preachers.
I was born in Massa Marittima in 1380, I was born asphalted by both parents. I was raised by Franciscan tertiary mourners. And in the Franciscan charism I have found the horizon in which I spend my life for the Gospel. At twenty-two I left her family's agility to enter the Minor's Order. As a priest I was entrusted with my culture and eloquence by the ministry of preaching. I first went to Tuscany and then to Italy, announcing the word of God with great success. My sermons were received thanks to a faithful (or admirer) transcriptor, who in his own way stenographed everything, even my sighs ... My simple and incisive eloquence attracted the crowds, awakened religious practice, reconciled factions and suggested reforms. I have conquered the audience not with abstract reasoning, but with simplicity, with parables, anecdotes, stories, metaphors, dramatizing and theatricalizing the tale. They are above all present: punishment and chastisement of human weaknesses, witchcraft, superstitions, play and bribes, small and big cheats in retail, frivolous modes, vices in general, public and private. But I'm fierce with the usurers. They partake the death of these such as killing a pig in a family: a celebration and a liberation from hunger for all. I propagated devotion to the SS. Name of Jesus and I have incited the veneration to the multitudes. To make my word more effective, I have sculpted or painted on the tablets and molds of various material the monogram of Jesus' JHS name, surrounded by therays. I also impressed a new spirit of reform in the Franciscan Order. So much apostolic activity has always preferred the cloister to the Episcope, even though the Order wanted me, and so remind me, among the greatest Vicars of all times. I have written many works, including the "Sermones" in Latin and the "Sermons" in vulgar. I died in L'Aquila on May 20, 1444, and am buried right there in the homonymous basilica.
